Global Distribution System - Automated transactions between Third-parties and booking agents in order to provision travel related services to the end customer.Links different services (rates, bookings, consolidates services across all three travel sectors - airline reservation, hotel reservations, car rentals and activities)

A computer reservations system or central reservation system[1] (CRS) is a computerized system used to store and retrieve information and conduct transactions related to air travel, hotels, car rental, or activities

An Internet booking engine (IBE) is an application which helps the travel and tourism industry support reservation through the Internet. It helps consumers to book flights, hotels, holiday packages, insurance and other services online. This is a much needed application for the aviation industry as it has become one of the fastest growing sales channels.

IBEs were necessary as the underlying (often called legacy) systems were unable to cater economically for the large number of shopping transactions and the speed of development required by the customers. In most cases the underlying systems were not designed for direct exposure to consumers.

DB Connection Issues

1. Application gives "1c86bdf0 SharedPool I J2CA0086W: Shareable connection MCWrapper id 686bbdf9 Managed connection com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.spi.WSRdbManagedConnectionImpl@6156bdf9 State:STATE_TRAN_WRAPPER_INUSE" message when trying to do a db update within loop which is querying a view and carrying out some operations. In IBM this problem is documented under the topic " Application hangs with prior J2CA0086W warning messages" The solutions are  1. The application must be modified to use serial reuse or 2. The connection pool can be changed to unshareable. Shareable connections are not allowed within a local transaction containment boundary. The above scenario suggests a possible problem in the application logic and how it is using the connection code. The J2CA0086 message is telling you that your application is using a shared connection in a LocalTransaction.
